: 1. northic paganism and if its still meaningful to pray to its gods since i take it that "ragnark" already took place, which would include that most of the old gods died in battle a long time ago.

Well, Mike, it's not so easy to state that Ragnarok aready took place. We just don't know it.
Even if it was so, do you remember that new gods will arise after Ragnarok? Modi and Magni, Thor's sons, and Baldr will be back from Hel...

: do we actually pray to dead gods?

Hmmm... First of all, the gods you speak about could be alive because there was no Ragnarok. Then, it is necessary to say that concept of the gods (amongst modern day heathens) is different to the idea that gods are just "creations of human mind". The gods just can't die, for we all are descendants of the gods, and we still can feel the gods through our blood.
